Briefly: Who we are and What we do. 

Childgrove is a social dance group open to anyone. We have a contradance every Sunday, and one English Country dance a month. See the schedule below.
Dances usually cost $10 for adults; half price for students. Cash, Check, Venmo, or PayPal.
No experience necessary. No partner necessary; the culture suggests changing partners for each dance.
It is similar to square dancing, but usually done in long lines instead of groups of 4 couples. And no lessons or special clothes needed.
Each dance takes about 15 minutes to teach and dance.
Dances have live music, except the Techno contras. All dances have a caller/prompter/teacher to guide us through the choreography.
As for dress: Comfortable. Wear shoes that are good for bowling or other indoor activities. It is aerobic; expect to sweat.
Contradance uses more energy, less thinking (once you know the basics). English Country Dance can be stately or vigorous, simple or complex, changing dance by dance.

  • Weds Calling Party at Martha's Wed, Oct 07, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
    Potluck and social workshop with dancing at Martha’s house.  This is a private party, not a Childgrove event. But anyone can come.
     
    Great opportunity for new callers to give it a try… Contra or English Country. 
    We also need dancers of any-or-no skill to come and help us.
     
    Bring your calling cards, bring your questions, just come to dance and socialize.

  • StLECD English Country Dance Fri, Oct 09, 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm
    Workshop on basic terminology and figures at 7:00; the main dance at 7:30. 
    $10 for the live band and caller 
    Calling by Conner Quinn and Peter Wollenberg
    Note: Proof of Covid Vaccination is still required.
     All the way upstairs (handicap accessible, elevator, chair lift).
